I have done the same thing using Scott's JDBC service program. Works like a
charm. I could send you some code if you want but you are going to need to
download Scott Klement's JDBC service program and JDBC driver from JTDS. You
can write directly to the JDBC driver but why bother. Scott has already done
most of the work for you.

I need some help guys and gals. How to I connect to SQL Server from the
iSeries. I need to send data from iSeries over to SQL Server. I have a
store procedure on SQL server that I need to call from the iSeries, then
have the SQL Server process the data, then return to me a status flag, I
guess back to my RPGLE program. This needs to be programmed in RPGLE, but
where do I setup the connection to SQL Server? Also, this job will be
running in batch so it will not be running from a windows desktop. Any help
would be much appreciated, thanks!
