The problem is, IBM restricts the use of *READ trigger to only the *AFTER event-time, when it is "too late" to change any of the values in the data buffer returned to the application program, rendering this kind of trigger practically "useless" (except perhaps to audit what iuser and what program accessed each record and when, for certain applications in certain industries that have legal mandates for such auditing.)
