You have just been told you have 6 months left with your company as

What language would you learn and why?

I have to thoughts on this topic ...
1. I would absolutely restrict myself to ONE language ... I would learn multiple. Java & PHP are the top that list for me. Javascript & CSS come in a very close second (mainly because they are pretty important to to PHP). C# and ASP (or whatever the .net web scripting language is) might be candidates, if I was so allergic to Windows programming.

2. More importantly, I would ABSOLUTELY not wait until I've been told I have 6 months left ... I would start learning new stuff now ... in fact, I'm ALWAYS trying to learn new stuff.

IMO, the biggest problem the technology industry faces is that people have this misconception that they don't need to learn anything new. At the rate that technology changes these days, if you aren't always in learning mode, you are falling behind.

This topic gives me a great idea for an IMHO blog post ... so stay tuned.
