I know you say that the Subfile pages up and down fine. Even that

Paging is usually handled by the Page keys and has nothing to do with CA vs. CF

I always thought that CA keys would not return any values other than the
Function Key indicators, or is it that CA just does not GUARANTEE the
transfer of values to your program?

CA sends only the cursor position and the key indicator. CF does that plus any data from fields with MDT active.

Or the value of something like the
RRN of the subfile line# which is defined in the DDS is still in place
even when CA keys are used instead of CF keys.

Que?

But for a input field in
a different format, maybe the value is not passed. I think Debug would
show this quickly.

I practice the goodness of only coding the CA03(03) as a CA key, and
code all others as CF keys.

There is no point in sending data to the host when that data will be ignored by the host application. Indeed if you use DDS validation and inappropriate CF keys you can make it impossible for a user to exit the application or refresh the display because the workstation controller will require valid data to be entered before it sends anything to the application program.

In general, F3, F5, and F12n should always be CA keys. Others likely should be CF.

Simon Coulter.
