I agree with Charles. And though certs are only one indication of
technical strength in our chosen platform/language, it is something for
the ambitious to aspire to and work for and strive toward.

Certification is a big issue in the Agile world, where they might
question the value of certs and how they would be scored, and how to
score practical experience, but they do not question the ABSENCE of a
cert!

Note that on the site, there is something for EGL certifications -
otherwise one would be hard-pressed to prove themselves an expert in EGL
to a customer. ( Rational Bus Developer 7.1 EGL and COBOL
http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/certs/38003301.shtml ) There is something
under Rational for HATS, too.

It seems that is what IBM thinks we as customers want, and where money
will be spent. The perception of us RPG-ers not wanting certs is
another case of IBM really not talking to us, their customers. And I
think for many, this could signal that it is time to move onto some
other - better supported - language.

Jon,
I understand what you're saying, but the withdrawing of this test
troubles me even so; as an indication of where the platform is headed.

Charles
