same result--more obvious code. COBOL has support for ALL literal too but I'm afraid certain less feature rich languages do not. Oh well.


As I noted in my previous post, you can't set the buffer to a computed value. A syntax like *ALL(varname) would fix that, but alas there is no such thing. So yes, as Dennis points out, the assumption (whoever makes it, compiler or OS) creates a loss of function, however minor.
