That's not the point!

The point is to waste time trying to duplicate (as near as possible)
existing SQL functionality with native RPG. We *know* we could do it
with
SQL, but it's much more fun to play :-)

It's also significantly (and I cannot overstress this) more efficient to do
natively. While I haven't tested this one for comparison's sake, I did do
an analysis of SQL's LIKE versus %Scan versus regular expressions. I will
try to put together something to post the results in a sensible manner
shortly (perhaps this weekend). There is an order of magnitude of
difference. (For now) believe me, the effort spent on coding a native
solution is well spent. (The SQL developers should be downright ashamed.
But then again, this sort of SQL usage is a hack, something not really
intended by the SQL developers, I suspect.)
