I too love
dow (FetchNext() = SQL_SUCCESS);
For three reasons:
1 - disposes of priming fetch.
2 - Allows you to put gruesome details of fetch failure in subprocedure.
Like alert the troops if the fetch failed for any other reason than end of
cursor. Or should I wait if the row is locked?
3 - If someone uses ITER in the do loop you won't get stuck in an infinite
loop.
