A constant would probably not become an addressable field.  It would
just be part of the constant data of the module.  The subfield would
have to have storage allocated and initialized (the initialization

would be part of the constant data of the module).

It becomes a part of the constant data of the module, and then it is
referenced how?  By magic, or by address?  The correct answer is the latter,
so this is an addressable entity.  "Field" was possibly a poor choice of
terms.  What I was saying was that the constant and the field will both be
compared by referencing some address.  Given that, I cannot see how any
performance difference could possibly be encountered.
