Vern,

This where I get confused with the binding directory stuff. I created
the module program successfully (via CRTRPGMOD). I then ran the
UPDSVRPGM. The message tells me that UTILITY service program does not
exist. With just running the CRTRPGMOD and UPDSRVPGM I cannot see were
the UTILITY service program object gets created.

Regards,
John.

John

The message should tell you what kind of object it is. Do a WRKOBJ
against it, specifying *ALLUSR for the library. See where it is, add
that library to your library list.

Hi Charles,

When I run the UPDSRVPGM I get message saying the Service program not
updated. When I check the job log it tells me object UTILITY in NEWLIB
not found. Where am I going wrong?

No.

1) CRTRPGMOD on UTIL001A
2) UPDSRVPGM srvpgm(UTILITY) module(UTIL001A)

That's pretty much it. You don't even need to recompile your program!

Thus the advantages of ILE programming.

Charles

So to re-create them from scratch I would ...
1. Use CRTRPGMOD to create the UTIL001A RPGLE
2. Create the service program UTILITY - CRTSRVPGM
SRVPGM(NEWLIB/UTILITY)
MODULE(UTIL001A) SRCFILE(NEWLIB/QSRVSRC) SRCMBR(*SRVPGM)
TEXT('Utilities')
3. Create binding directory UTILITY - CRTBNDDIR
BNDDIR(NEWLIB/UTILITY)
4. Add the service program to the binding directory - ADDBNDDIRE
BNDDIR(NEWLIB/UTILITY) OBJ((NEWLIB/UTIL001A))
5. Finally compile my RPG program which uses the UTILITY
