If you are on V5R4 or later contact me off-list and I will give you a pre-release copy of my (opensource) xmli routines. With these routines you can build your XML in any way you want, and it will write it to the IFS for you.
I have a sourceforge project for it but haven't yet put the code up. If anybody else is interested in having a look at it let me know and I'll post it there as a beta release.
