You're always using activation groups - even if it's the default activation group. Mark, Simon, or Scott could give a better explanation of how this impacts performance since, as you say, the files are not (usually) closed manually, and it appears that you are using the default AG.

I remember that one, it was in an article on MVC I believe. But activation groups are rarely used here. At the moment.
