Hi David.

Have you tried using %PARMS on the external procedure?
Heres a quick example...
P prExtProc B EXPORT
D PI N
* Optional Display only
D vbOptional N OPTIONS(*NOPASS) VALUE

* Default Display only Parameter
D pbDisplayOnly S N

/FREE
// If parameter passed, use it
pbDisplayOnly = %PARMS > *ZEROS AND vbOptional;
// Rest of stuff...
RETURN pbDisplayOnly;
/END-FREE
P prExtProc E

Martin

Subject: Missing parameter

Hello all,

An existing external procedure does a load of calculations and then displays a subfile for a client.

I now need to be able to display it differently, ie in a visualization mode instead of modification mode so that function keys cannot be used and fields can be protected.

Normally, we would just add a parameter for the display mode and modify all callers, etc,etc.

What is an efficient way to modify this procédure? I am tempted to put a global field <mode> and add a procedure to set this mode from my caller before calling the subfile procedure. This way I will not touch the callers.

Any advice?

Thanks
