I wouldn't go that far. C works extremely well for some things. I used it for the server-side communication layers in our client-server products (all of which predate the "Toolbox" by well over a year), and for the scanners called by a couple of parsers I wrote in RPG. And in a number of other places.

But I would say that it's a language that has far too many "true believers" who consider it a panacea. And unfortunately, Java's biggest shortcoming is that it was developed by a bunch of C jocks. Although it could have been worse; they could have gone to great lengths to keep the "null-terminated string" bovine scat intact.

Of course, this is the RPG list. We don't have any of that "one language is a panacea" bovine scat here, do we? ;-P
