I have always felt that %SubDt should be allowed on the left-hand side. In fact I thought the original design called for that but one way or another it didn't happen.

Why invent a new BIF when there is a perfectly good one already? After all %SubDt is deliberately named to sound similar to %Subst - as it should be. %Subst can be used on the right or left side - why not %SubDt??
