If I were charged with this, I would create a 3-byte,
no-varying-length field (myString), and EVAL myString = string.

Then a simple:
IF (myString = 'A' or myString = 'B' or myString = 'C') ;
// do stuff
Else ;
// do other stuff
EndIF ;

That's what I have, Dennis, although at first I automatically began to code :

If %substr(myfield : 1 : 3 ) = Myconstant OR
%substr(myfield : 1 : 3 ) = MyOtherconstant OR....

Before realising that this solution seemed to be a lot more work for the program.

Note that you do not need to specify trailing blanks in a
string comparison.
'A' is equal to 'A ' all day long from that perspective.

I didn't realise that, thanks. Before I tell that to my colleagues, anyone know where that is documented?
