Hi Steve
here is one example of a web page on the use of Message subfiles

http://search400.techtarget.com/expert/KnowledgebaseAnswer/0,289625,sid3_gci1068814_mem1,00.html
If you google "message subfile" you will have multiple examples to look at

Thanks everyone for your insight. I did end up doing what Booth threw
out
& made monreas1 field also have the errmsg, never occurred to me to do it

that way so thanks Booth :-)

Some of you mentioned that you handle error messages using a different
method, could any of you give me an example?
Thanks!!

Steve Jones

I am curious: Could he also have an ERRMSG conditioned by 31 on field
monreas1 field, too, and forget the RI?

Yes, but unless ERRSFL is also specified only the first ERRMSG will be
effective.
