Paul,

You need to confirm how you have this laser printer defined to the system. Is it LAN attached? If so, does the device support PJL or SNMP. In earlier releases (prior to V5R1), LAN attached printer support was somewhat limited, and many devices had to be configured as remote outq's instead of LAN printer devices.

If using a device description for this printer, you need to be sure to specify Host Print Transform *YES, and ensure that you have a valid MFRTYPMDL() value. This is used by HPT to see what flavor of PCL to render. Also, SYSDRVPGM(*HPPJLDRV) should be specified if attaching to a HP compatible device. I don't think you have very many options at the release you're running, so your options may be limited....

Subject: Bar Code Printing on HP

Does anybody have a working example of an RPG program that will print bar code on mailing labels using an RPG program.  I have tried several different ways by sending escape strings to the printer within the RPG program, but so far nothing has worked.  We are currently using V4R3 and the printer is an HP LASERJET 2430N.  I have found several examples using ILE but all had "free-format" which our version doesn't appear to accept.

We are needing to print bar codes on customer mailing labels using an RPG program.  We currently using V4R3 and the printer is an HP LASERJET 2430N.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
