If you are interested in using database files, display files, and printer files from an ILE or OPM CL application I am expanding the beta program for a new product: Control Language for Files (CLF). In case you're wondering why I have posted this on the RPG list, here's a sampling of some of the commands:

Open - Open a file
Chain - Read a record randomly by key
ReadE - Read by equal key
SetLL - Set lower limit
Update - Update a record
Write - Write a record
Exfmt - Write/Read a record
Close - Close a file
etc.

I can safely say that if you are familiar with free-form RPG data I/O then you should have no problem picking up a CLF CL program and understanding it :)

Files can be externally described, program desribed, intermixed with traditional CL file support, used under commitment control (or not), contain null-capable fields, contain variable-length fields, contain subfiles (if *DSPF that is), and a whole lot more. Conditions such as end-of-file, record-not-found, etc can be handled with a MONMSG approach or logical variables (often known as indicators) -- your choice.

You can find a bit more information at www.brucevining.com. Stage 2 of the beta program will run for the first few weeks of July. System requirements are that you be on V5R4 or later.

If you are interested please contact me offline.

Thank you,
Bruce
