The "/" must be in column 6. the other lines must start in column 7 or
greater. If you're using pdm, in edit, use F15, and select the compiler
listing. It gives you a pretty good idea of what the error is, with the
line number, unless it happened during the bind step, which is unlikely
in this case.

In WDSC, the errors are displayed automatically, but are useless if you
have embedded SQL. Also not applicable here.

The example really should be:

/free
dsply 'hello World';
*inlr = *on;
/end-free
