SQL can easily handle files across partitions - just use WRKRDBDIRE to
add relational database directory entries for your other partitions.
Then you can connect to any of them, albeit one at a time.

As I said, I use REMOTE SQL successfully. I know how to do this.
As you said 'albeit one at a time.' , is my problem. With Remote SQL one
can access ONLY ONE PARTITION at a time. It is NOT POSSIBLE to
TRANSFER data or get at data from MULTIPLE partitions, AFAIK, using
REMOTE SQL, except via the technique of passing data as a parameter.

Ideally I want to assess files from ANY partition just like one can
access files from a SINGLE partition.

If I am missing something obvious I would be most grateful to be shown
what I am going wrong. What I sometimes resort to is to use FTP to
transfer data from the various partitions to temporary files then do the
SQL updates then FTP the data back and apply the updates,
but this is way to kludgy.

FWIW I noticed an article by Scott Klement where he uses JDBC
drivers to access SQL data bases. I intend to see if this may do
what I need but I am not very hopeful.

When we install a HA system I reckon I may be able to use its
remote journaling function to achieve the goal of updating
files in multiple partitions, and in this case I would NOT NEED
Remote SQL at all. BTW, would Remote Journals do
what I need.

Frank Kolmann
