specs line up by the right hand side and it would look silly if

were to be lined up as

I would modify
"The result of %EDITC is always the same length,"
to
"The result of %EDITC is always the same length, given the same size input
variable and the same edit code" but maybe that's a given.
I'd warrant that %editc(My7dot2 : 'J') would be a different length than
%editc(My9dot2 : 'J') even if the actual value of both variables were the
same.
Just as %editc(My7dot2 : 'A') would be a different length than
%editc(My7dot2 : '1')
