Maybe make an array in a DS from those fields - do it outside of any procedures, as it has to be global to get the field names from the file. Put the field names into the DS with just the field names, in order from RATE01 to RATE12 - then put an array called, say, RATES defined like RATE01 and DIM(12) - make it overlay either the DS or RATE01 - then get the number of the month and use it as the index into the array.

Something like this

d rateDS ds
d RATE01
d RATE02
d RATE03
d RATE04
d RATE05
d RATE06
d RATE07
d RATE08
d RATE09
d RATE10
d RATE11
d RATE12
d rates dim(12)
d like(RATE01)
d overlay(rateDS)

HI Is there a way to refer to a field, by its name, in RPG ILE? I have a legacy
file that contains rates by month. For each month, there is a field, RATE01,
RATE02, etc.

I would like to be able to check the name of tbe field and then know that I need
to find say RATE07 since we are in July.

TIA,
Adam
