I see no need to recompile it on V5R3 UNLESS, you are also planning on
doing a CHGPGM RMVOBS(*ALL). Programs compiled to V5R1 or above can have
the observability removed and still run on V6R1. If you remove
observability prior to a target release of V5R1 or higher then they have
to be recompiled prior to running on V6R1.

If you have already converted some, you can continue on down that road and
phase in your migration. You may wish to convert from the *M36 to S/36
environment in order to run a mix of code.

I can see no reason why a converted program would compile successfully on
V4 and not be recognized or be able to be compiled on V5. That sounds
like a ptf situation only.

License keys would not affect your RPGLE "compiled" programs. If,
however, you failed to get license keys for 5722WDS (and 5722ST1 if you
imbed SQL) then you will not be able to compile. However any existing
compiled programs would still work fine.

What might fail is if your code includes stuff like QCMDEXC calls to
Office Vision/400 or any of the other myriad of products that IBM has
tossed aside.

You could also port your RPGII source to the new machine and convert it
then. I get my jollies off of newer versions and would find any excuse to
move from V4.
