today = %date();
%subdt(today: *days) = 1;

I initially wondered that too but the documentation says %subdt EXTRACTS a value from a date which is why I suggested a data structure to set the day component. That is different from %subst which can be used on either side of an expression. While not as explicit as the documentation for %DAYS, %MONTHS, and %YEARS, %SUBDT also can only be used on the right-hand side of an expression. Trying your code will result in RNF0955 - Item not valid on left-hand side of an EVAL operation.

Note that IF this worked the name of the variable "today" would be poorly chosen because the resulting date would no longer BE today (except for one day a month).

Simon Coulter.
