Maybe it's just me, but why chain to a record you just accessed with a
READE?

In any event, this is the usual way I do reade loops:

Setll Key_List File;
if %Equal(file);
Dou %EOF(File);
Reade Key_List File;
If %EOF(File);
Leave;
Endif;

// process your stuff here..

Enddo;
Endif;
This way, the loop is avoided if there is nothing to process.

I didn't know that either. I'm not sure why that would consider a
gotcha when using %eof() vs %eof(filename)?

Reade (myKey) myFile
Chain (myKey) myFile
If %eof(myFile) <== result of this testing would be wrong
Endif

Reade (myKey) myFile
Chain (myKey) myFile
If %eof() <== result of this testing would be wrong also
Endif

I did not know that. Thankfully I always qualify anyway.

One possible gotcha to using %eof() instead of %eof(filename) is that a
successful SETLL, SETGT, OPEN, or CHAIN will set %eof(filename) = *OFF.
But %eof() will be unchanged.

I always use %eof(filename).
