I was trying to be slick...
I got a file which was passed from a PC file. To ensure everything
was in UPPER case, I built an external data structure and issued a
Xlate on it.

One quick statment and all is good... right... I got bit!

There are some packed numeric fields with in the data structure.
Some of the pack numeric were change into special characters...

I understand why... and I know of a couple of work arounds...

1) I think I can change the DDS to sign numeric, try to get rid of
the packed.

2) Save the packed fields and restore them back into the data
structure after the xlate.

3) Xlate each alpha field independatly...

Any other options that I am overlooking...????
