Hello list,

I have a field that is string of 22 positions with a value of 0000317982. I need to trim the zeros on the left to have only the value of 317982 and move it to another string field.

I have tried to convert it to numeric but it gives me leading blanks " 317982000000000000".

This has already been suggested:
string2 = %triml(string1 : '0')
If there would also be leading blanks, then use this:
string2 = %triml(string1 : '0 ')

If the input string might sometimes be all zeros, that would give you a blank result. If that's not what you want, you could code like this, to get one zero in the result:
string2 = %char(%dec(string1 : 22 : 0));
