Your boss is being extremely unreasonable. Use a trigger-handling program
on the file.

As Grace Hopper (one of the very first computer programmers) once said:
"It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission"

She also coined the phrase 'debugging' as it relates to debugging computer
programs; However, the original phrase was 'debugging the computer', as in
getting dead insects (REAL bugs) out of the relays inside the machine.
