Balance = Allowance - (credit * -1);

This way a positive credit would be handled.

If the balance should never exceed the Allowance then you could just add a
conditional statement.

Balance = Allowance - (credit * -1);
If Balance > Allowance;
Balance = Allowance;
Endif;

Subject: Negative numbers problem

I have a field which is a credit amount so it has the negative sign. I have
to subtract this from the Allowance account amount, to show the user how
much is left in the account. I am getting that it adds it bec. negative
minus negative. What sort of techniques are best to use? I can simply
declare it to be pos. in the first place i suppose.
