Not if you're just worried if your TCPIP is setup properly, which I believe
was the point I made to the OP about using PING to verify DNS is set up
properly.

That's all that matters with ping.

Not true. Being able to resolve a symbolic address is only part of
the equation. Even with an IP address you may not be able to reach
that system (e.g., No route to host) for a number of reasons. Ping is
intended to tell you the host is reachable not just that name
resolution is OK.
