you *can* check the LF via DSPFD (or use an API) to find the based on PF
member.

When creating logical file (CRTPF), developer has a choice to name
whatever member name he/she wants. The command also allows developer to
create a logical file member that is base on multiple physical members.

The logical file member that my RPG program is reading is a logical
member that base on multiple physical file members. Pos 129-138 will
only tells the program the name of logical file member. It will not
give you the actual physical file member name for the record it just
read.

AFAIK, the logical file member name will be the same as the PF member
name, so Peter's suggestion sounds like the best strategy to me.
