Jeff - are you trying to set a variable using the SQL functions? Seems you don't want to populate a file.

I'm thinking of something in the VALUES INTO range - had a post on this earlier today. A SELECT statement can be used so long as it returns a single row - you could always use something like

d hostvar s 1a

values (select case when yourfield in('1', '2') then '1' else then '0' end case from sysibm/sysdummy1) into :hostvar

Rob had the syntax for the CASE - modify this if needed.

Using SQL, is there any way to test a variable for a value and return an
indicator flag?
What I would like to do is to be able to use the SQL BIF's to test a variable
for a list of values and then return a '1' or '0' (on/off) to the program.

Thanks,
