As far as I can remember, prior to V5R3, CEEDOD will return length of 0
if caller passes data structure as the parameter. value.

For example:

D myVar S 10

D myDS DS
D var1 5
D var2 5

myProc(myVar); <== CEEDOD, in myProc, will return 10 as field length
myProc(myDS); <== CEEDOD, in myProc, will return 0 as field length
(prior to V5R3).

Why V5R3? have you had problems with OPDESC on earlier releases?
(They've existed since ILE RPG was released in V3R1)

If Don is already on V5R3, he should be able to safely use the
operational descriptors to get the actual field length of *varsize
param. Search for CEEDOD or opdesc and he should be able to get some
examples regarding this.
