You may be right, Eric. In a former incarnation I used to train programmers. In general, my impression (no scientific data to support it) was that RPG II programmers picked up on RPG III pretty fast (this was some time ago, no IV). The RPG III programmers, though, that had never done II, seemed to have a heck of a time grasping the concept of the cycle, program-described files, etc. I think the thing they hated most (and I sorta agreed with) is flipping back to the I-specs to see what fields had the Lx or Mx indicators. They (the IIIers) didn't like II (who could blame them), but they did catch on without too much difficulty, but a lot of resistance.
