That would be what we disagreed upon. I don't believe one can spend 20
minutes or so to get a good understanding of how a framework, that
he/she is un-familiar with, work. I do believe one can spend 20 minutes
or so to understand a new bif or opcode. Beside if the framework is
largely abandoned and can be easily done by a commonly used method, why
should I spend 20 minutes to save you 20 minutes in the beginning?

Maybe standard method is not a good phrase. A commonly used method may
be (You know what I mean).

Apologize for my comment about "old & lazy", it was posted on the OP.
This tailing note is by no mean serious or directed to you.

Ok. I shall change my question a bit.

What would your answer be if "MR" is largely abandoned by 99% of
programmers in your shop and most of them will not be able to
understand it when encounter one and you do not see a come back
anytime in the future?

I don't accept your premise that skilled RPG programmers would be
stumped for long by encountering a matching records program. They might
have to spend 20 minutes or so reading up on it then they should have no
trouble.

If your answer is go ahead with it and document it really well in the
cycle program so they can understand it, then my next question is: is
it really that hard or impossible to use the standard method? If your

answer is yes, then that is what we disagreed on, which would need to
resolve under IT shop standard or preference.

Standard method? If cycle coding is allowed by my shop standards then it
is a standard method.

(Note: old and lazy is never a good excuse in a professional field. I

certainly do not want to hear my doctor say that to me.) :)

I think there's a false premise in there. I may be both old and lazy but
I prefer to select the best tool for a particular job.
