<snip>
What about:

D SYSYMD S 6 0 inz(*SYS)

D SYSTIME S 6 0 inz(*SYS)
</snip>

You can't initialize this way.
RNF3430: Initial value *SYS does not match data type of field SYSTIME.
Initial value is ignored

Subject: Re: getting system date and system time

What about:

D SYSYMD S 6 0 inz(*SYS)

D SYSTIME S 6 0 inz(*SYS)

?

Another choice would be to not use the two fields at all, nut instead use
%date() & %time() where you are using SYSMYD & SYSTIME; e.g. eval DateField
= %date()

Is there a better way to retrieve the system date and time than this,

is this as good as any?
System date, not the job date.
D SYSYMD S 6 0
D SYSTIME S 6 0
/FREE
SYSYMD = %DEC(%SUBST(%CHAR(%TIMESTAMP:*ISO0):3:6):6:0);
SYSTIME = %DEC(%SUBST(%CHAR(%TIMESTAMP:*ISO0):9:6):6:0);
/END-FREE
