Greg,

Just so you know, you probably need to get more than just Java. You should also get the database, HTTP server, and WebSphere (if you have it installed) groups.

You may be barking up the right tree there, Matt.

Our PTF group level is only 13, so I've asked our operations guy to see
about getting us upgraded.

Thanks

Greg

|Greg,
|
|GO LICPGM, option 10 will show you if you have multiple JDK's
installed.
|WRKPTFGRP will show you the group level (PTF group SF99269 is Java). We
|have level 17 installed here which is fairly recent but there are
likely
|newer available.
|
|You'll have to check out the POI web site to see what it's compatible
|with. JDK 1.4 is a pretty old (but still widely used) JDK and you're
|using a newer version of POI than I use so it's possible that it
|requires JDK 1.5 for certain things to work. It's also possible that
|there is a compatibility layer to make it work with JDK 1.4 if that's
|truly an issue.

|Matt,
|
|JAVA *Version reveals :Version JVM V5R3M0 JDK 1.4.2
|
|How would I know if I'm running multiples ?
|How can I tell if it is compatible with POI 3.0.1 ?
|
|I'm inclined to think it is compatible, because Scott's program to
|create the Excel sheet works, and it uses the same POI. It is the one
|that updates the spreadsheet that is biting me.
|
|Thanks
|
|Greg

||Greg,
||
||Couple other thought on this: What JDK are you running and is it
||compatible with the version of POI you're using. Also, how recent is
|the
||Java group on your system? Do you have multiple JDK's loaded? If so,
|are
||you using the one you think you are (typing JAVA *VERSION on the
|command
||line will tell what the JDK you're running)?

||Matt
