Sheri,

Many moons ago, printing on a Printronix printer via RPG we had to access
the printcodes directly from the output specs. Basically we passed the hex
codes specified by the technical manual along with the variable data.

I seem to recall in the O-specs having '&%1B' for the start of the escape
sequence followed by the other commands specified in the tech manual. Most
printer manuals have specific codes or escape sequences to enable certain
functions. That's just a thought. It was very tedious and time consuming,
I wouldn't want to go down that path again.

I agree with others...it maybe time to convert the output specs to
externally described output file.

Careful...I remember 1992 as it was yesterday. :)

Good Luck,

Russell Conerly

Subject: Bar Code printing example

Hi Group,

I am a novice RPG programmer and my boss as asked me to modify our
'picking slip' program to include a bar code (order and order generation
#). We currently print on an OKIDATA Microline 590 line printer and
want to move to an Epson POS printer, model TM T811V. Additionally, we
would like the printer to cut the paper after printing each pick slip.

I have no experience printing bar codes and don't know where to start.
The existing program was written in 1992 (yikes) in RPG.

If anyone has a sample program, or can point me to a sample on the web I
would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Sheri
