I've a V3R(something) box that a previous employer gave me (he wanted to clear out his office). Haven't had it turned on in quite some time, but it does run. I'm thinking about going Bolhuis one better and turning it into a toaster. .-)

A possible scenario is that a small company has the box sitting in a closet and it just runs. Then, a regulatory change forces a code change. Having no programmers, they hire a contractor. I believe V3R1 was released in 1994, and it's not unbelievable that an AS/400 would just... run for that amount of time.
