Ewart,

I think you'll find that this doesn't work as you expect it to.

In fact, what you're doing is calling the program with parameter
"SCINPUT", not the contents of the field or data structure SCINPUT in your
RPG program!

To achieve that, you need to code

cmd = 'CALL ' + %trim(varpgmnm) + ' PARM(' + '''' + scinput + '''' + ')';

(I didn't check this on our system, but I think the syntax is OK)
