The total string length I wrote is less than 2000 bytes.

Do you mean the work field is less than 2000 bytes or the expected
contents are less than 2000 bytes? What does your write() call look like?
Is it possible that you have a long character field and are writing a
bunch of trailing blanks unintentionally?

<snip>
And when viewing
the file via wrklnk it appears as one long string that 'wraps' and
appears
as three lines on the display. The CCSID is 819.

Within the string there are multiple x'0D' where the data segments end
within the string. I thought those would serve to enable displaying each

segment as a separate line in the wrklnk view.

I have files of a similar nature (text data in the IFS with ccsid 819
and
multiple x'0D') from a different application and these appear to not
exhibit this behavior. Each segment terminated with an x'0D' displays as

one line on the display in wrklnk and I can use F20 to window to the
right
to see the data within each segment.

Did you open the file in an editor to ensure the x'0D' is actually making
it to the file intact? That way you can at least rule out unexpected data
or unexpected translations (from one CCSID to another for example).

Adam
