Doug, here's an idea: try replacing SELECT SUM(SLEXT$) with SELECT COUNT(*).
See if that works and gives you a value greater than zero. If you get zero,
that's your problem.

Here is EXACTLY what I am typing in strsql:

SELECT SUM(SLEXT$) FROM SLSTRNL5 WHERE SLTDAT >20070722 AND SLTDAT <
=20070801 AND SLSHRT=' ' AND SLCLAS > 1 AND SLACCT = 10103900

Now the order of criteria fields has varied some, but in the end I am
using
the same fields and the same values between both the rpg and the strsql
