Hold on a sec. What is meant by "In SQL"?

SQL does work with OVRDVF if you specify the Physical File (it has to be DDS defined to have more than one member, right) on the SQL statement.

Subject: RE: creating a view - looking for a specific member using SQL

In SQL, you cannot use OVRDBF. In SQL, you have to create an ALIAS to
point to the specific member of a multi-member file. And then open the
ALIAS name.

Later, you might want to delete the ALIAS with the command DROP ALIAS.
In a highly controlled environment like where I work, I cannot create
and drop aliases without them showing up on our security report, so I
create the alias in QTEMP for the life of the job, and then DROP ALIAS
QTEMP/aliasname.
