If you just HAVE to have multiple members, make it a partitioned table.
Granted there are those who might argue that they can save $0.75 worth of
disk space if they didn't have to add a field that would be only the
member name in a DDS file.

I won't argue the merits of your contention, Rob. However, I'm a big
advocate of DDL and I have to make sure that when somebody asks I can
explain all the downsides of my favored approach. This particular problem
makes it impossible to switch an existing multi-member physical from DDS to
DDL without fairly significant programming changes. (Remember, I'm from SSA
and I know all about multiple members, and am particularly aware of the
impact of redesigning database files to remove those members.)
