this is a good link. if what you are getting at is the protection on
the as400 of only executing code compiled by the trusted compiler -
that is not ILE doing that. ILE is not managed code because it does
not protect from things like *varsize parameters wrecking havoc on the
variables passed by reference to a procedure.

the thing that I did not get before I learned C# was the tremendous
advantage of garbage collection. not that you are saved the work of
freeing allocated memory, but the feature of newing up objects, adding
them to lists, returning them from method calls. It makes code an
order of magnitude easier to write and read.
