I am guessing that SQL probably has a much nicer way of doing this, but consider defining a logical keyed thusly, using the SST keyword for Logical files:

A KEYFIELD 8
A ACCOUNT 1 SST(KEYFIELD 5 1)
....
A K ACCOUNT
A K KEYFIELD

Then, you can do a setll on ACCOUNT

This could be as often as a weekly,
The key is Company, Division, Account (not that field in question)

A couple of questions for you: How much/ how often will this happen?
What does the key look like in the logical?

HI I have a field that is alpha, where it's 8 positions. The first 4
positions are a type of account and the 5th, is important this is for
the product group. In RPG I want to Setll to a master-file on which I
have a logical. The front-end screen to the user will also ask for the
Product group. I would thus like to use this as part of a processing
key.

I wanted to know if this is best to do this in RPG ILE or in SQL? Or
another method?

TIA,

Phil
