It's not that hard to figure out the main functions being performed from
a "cycle" program...plus they will likely use reference materials to
learn just enough to convert the stuff to more modern techniques so they
can go back to and easier to understand coding style...

I maintain older code too which is probably why we agree on this. As
for
writing a new program, scary isn't it? If they can't figure out what
the
old program is doing, how can they write a new one.....
