There are a few ways that it can be accomplished and it depends on where 
you want the flat file and if it is going to be one time or you need to do 
it in a program.

One way is to use the Client Access Data Transfer. From your client access 
screen, select 'Actions => Receive data from host'. 

Another possibility is to ftp the data to your local PC.

Additionally, you can create a physical file with no fields as the 
previous poster noted, then copy your data into that file with a *nochk. 
If there are packed fields then you need to create a modified version of 
the original file with the field names the same, but the packed fields 
create as signed, then copy the data into that file first, before copying 
into the flat file.

If you need to get the data to the ifs, then after the data is in the flat 
file on the iSeries, you can use the CPYTOSTMF command.

And there is also the CPYTOIMPF command.

Creating a flat file






Morning all;

I need to create a flat fixed lenth file from a file on the iSeries for 
sending via email.

I don't want it comm delimited.

Is there software on the iSeries to make this happen.

I've never had the need to do this, so need some advice.
