If I understand this correctly, the ten character field could contain "123", 
"456789", "7", or some other combination of numbers.  If that's the case, MOVEA 
could be used to place the value into an array with ten elements of one 
character each.  That could be used to populate an array with seven elements of 
one character each (after first initializing each element to 0) using each 
numeric value of the ten element array.  The result could then be overlaid on a 
seven digit field with a data structure.

That's really complicated, though.  You could also write a short RPGIV program 
that uses %INT to convert the string for you.

Have you tried just doing a MOVE from the 10A field to a 7/0 field?  It 
should work just fine.
